MoneyMob Talkabout was established to support the work of service providers who deliver financial literacy education to remote-dwelling Aboriginal people. The project involves two MoneyMob Talkabout four wheel drives going on ‘talkabout’ to deliver financial literacy education programs. The program is philosophically grounded in two-way learning where the knowledge of both Indigenous and Western cultures are equally valued and listened to. On the ground, the program relies heavily on storytelling and uses outdoor cinema, DVDs with the capacity to be re-recorded in language in situ and purpose created hands-on games and activities. This is a pilot program that is funded by FaHCSIA.

To create a bit of textural change against the gloss of the duco and the text logo elements we decided to produce a subtle matte black on the duco black with the line imagery representing the lines of a building. It is really subtle but it elevates the overall text design and contrasts the boldness of the colours used in the text. Matte Black detail appears on the side front panel, and rear left side. See images below.

I often visit The Design Files because it is one of my favourite Melbourne blogs and I was reading the latest post about Letterbox and being in the signage caper was pretty impressed with some of the signage /art installations particularly the suspended lettering on an external NGV wall and how it casts such a dramatic shadow. We do a lot of internal didactic work for exhibitions at the NGV – first coincidence. Being intrigued by the signage led me to the Letterbox website to see if I could check out the signage work in greater detail. Love the huge concrete “Arts House” letters and stumbled across some vans we did recently for Adams Eco Electrics – second coincidence. Letterbox go into some detail about how they arrive at developing the brand identity for Adams Eco Electrics. It provides a good example of how to develop your brand identity and how to promote what you do visually and aesthetically. Only you know your business, its strengths and the point of difference you want to sell and we get excited when you’ve nutted this out already and even more so when you have done this in consultation with brand identity specialists (graphic designers generally). It immediately informs us that you are serious about your brand. The best jobs are always the ones with a cohesive brand identity.

John gave a little talk about AutoSkin to Miss Bs grade 1 class (our daughter’s teacher) last term. Then all the kids went outside to check out an example of his work – the beaut ute then wrapped in matte black with some pinstriping overlays. He mentioned that he was going to add AutoSkin in a chalkboard font and that he could come back and let the kids chalk to their little hearts content all over the matte black sections. Last Tuesday he finally made it back to class. The kids were very excited about this. Here’s the result. Can you believe Pokemon is still popular. Next term he will go back. Meanwhile the kids will design their own environmental artwork based on next term’s theme and then try and reproduce their artwork on the car. Not unlike the way we prepare and lay artwork.

This would be a great idea for the restaurant delivery van, menu boards that kinda thing. However this ute being our trial car is a bit of a mix of things; we use it to trial new materials and we also like to have a bit of fun. This trial car was first taken to our local primary school to show an age old signage art meets digital age pinstriping. The pinstriping appears on the bonnet, the tray and rear of the vehicle. We’ve now added the chalkboard font to the sides. Chalkboard font on matte black film accentuates the matte black. This updated version is going back to school early next term so that the kids can chalk all over it.
