There was once a time not so long ago when a referral was by word of mouth. That was how we basically found new work. Word of mouth is less common today yet it is still the best kind for us in one sense because it’s an endorsement of our business and for the prospective client they can ask all sorts of questions about a third party … ‘are they good, reliable, friendly?’ ‘I like what they’ve done here for you etc.’ You know you’ll get a pretty honest appraisal. James Makin Gallery are a long standing client and Brunswick St Gallery (wall decals shown below) was referred by them. James Makin recently renovated their Gallery space and we provided the signage (pics still to come) and we regularly changeover exhibition graphics for them, standard fee, no hassles, friendly service! As far as online referrals go, search engines are our new best friend, well really our world wide web sales representatives. It’s brought us a lot of interstate work that we would not have otherwise fetched. It continues to bring in new clientele, sure it’s a bit of mixed bag – tyre kickers, scammers and the genuine article but overall we ain’t complaining.

About this job: 5 off, 90cm x 15cm, printed wall (or window) decals per artwork sent, pack and despatch to Fitzroy. Artwork printed on clear so that what you see now as white is actually clear once you remove the backing tape then apply to any surface and the surface colour will appear where clear. Get it? The clear also eliminates the issue of white on different white so that the sign looks part of the wall by drawing in the colour of the wall through the clear.

Up until recently you could not print with white ink. But that has all changed now!
Juliette chose the branched artwork below from a selection presented to her via online royalty free image group Fotolia. Basically Juliette was looking for branches and wanted white on glass window panels with a black frame (see artwork setup below). She had the option of printing the white on clear film and applying to glass or we could forme cut from white film and apply as a cut piece. Printing is a more seamless application as it is printed on film and applied as one piece to the glass panel. Made to look like it is part of the glass rather than a decal sticker application on top of the glass which is how the forme cut application will appear up close. This image was applied to internal glass windows as an aesthetic and to functionally obscure view to neighbor.

Emirate’s Marquee at 2008 Melbourne Cup

Pulled this one from last year’s archives. Photo courtesy of Tony Colquhoun, the marquee man, came months after the actual race so filed it away but it is the only shot we have of the finished wall mural ~ decal we did as a backdrop to the bar. A European winter’s scene livened up in hues of blue, white and grey. Love this red with this blue and white. It is often used as a nostalgic blend but here is given a very modern treatment with the red acrylic and white text

Don’t know about everyone else but this year has been a bit weird for business, steady with bursts of activity but certainly not going gang busters like the last few years which is a good thing sometimes, because time in between has enabled us to create our very own sign and practice what we preach. The big 3 – street, online and mobile presence. Here’s our street presence: fabricated, stepped signage showing a few different products that all relate to our online presence which is where you are at right now if you are reading this.
