How to Prepare Artwork for your Fitness Timetable
The ‘Magnetic Whiteboard Planner’ used in conjunction with printed magnets is perfect for any class or activity based timetable or schedule. In this post we write about how to create a magnetic fitness timetable. From the initial concept, to creating the artwork for the printed grid and magnets through to the final product. The example provided is one we recently completed for Leisure World in Western Australia.
The starting point for any custom planner is the artwork. We usually set up the basic grid artwork or the client can supply their own artwork if they have their own designer. If we’re creating the artwork, we ask the client to supply logo elements in a high resolution format. This is all communicated to the client at the beginning along with a checklist of things to do to get started. We walk the client through the whole design process.
- Measure the wall space available for your magnetic whiteboard
- Determine planner size, considering wall space available and content required for the planner
- Decide on a format, portrait or landscape, to suit your space.
- Create a mockup of the grid, showing column and row header detail, logo placement and other details to be printed
- List classes and times (if required) for printed magnets and quantities of each magnet
- Provide colours for magnets, Pantone references preferred, or we can output colour from a print file
- Supply brand assets (fonts, colours, logos, graphics and imagery).
Case Study.- Leisure World
Leisure World provided a grid layout on a spreadsheet. The layout included section headings along with column headings and they placed their logo in the top right corner. On a separate sheet they provided a list of all of the classes and colours for the printed class magnets and their individual quantities. They decided to print their class times because they change daily and there were a number of them. Refer to images below for mockup provided along with list of classes, times and quantities for each. All of this information informs the final design.
Once we have received the mockup and logo elements we set about creating the design. Leisure World’s logo is made up of three colours: grey, blue and orange. Grey was used for the grid and section headings, blue for the header backgrounds and orange for the return edge strip. These colours tie in aesthetically with the logo printed in the top right corner and elevate the brand profile. The grid becomes more than just a functional fitness timetable with the addition of logo branding and incorporation of brand colours in the design. Colours, fonts, imagery, graphics, and logos can all be incorporated into the design.
Magnets are an add on item for our magnetic range of planner whiteboards. Printed magnets for times, activities and classes enable you to reset the grid quickly, as and when required, in an aesthetically pleasing way that is clean and legible for the reader. Again, we can set up basic text artwork for your printed magnets, or, if you are wanting to incorporate logos or clip art in the design, these would need to be supplied in a format for printing. Magnets can be any colour and are laminated with dry erase should you want to write on them. We often make up a few blanks as reserves should printed magnets go missing while waiting for new magnets to be printed. Printed magnets, sized to fit into individual grid boxes, are very popular for classes and activity based planners. Easily updated: daily, weekly, monthly or as required.
Leisure World printed the days of the week as permanent column headers and use printed magnets for time slots that also serve as changeable row headings. Fitness classes, numerous as they may be, are the variable information that is assigned to the grid box for the appropriate time and day of the week. Leisure World opted for colourful class magnets, all the colours of the rainbow in fact, to differentiate between fitness classes, and simple black text on white magnets for class times. The Les Mills logo was used for proprietary classes.
With a galvanised base for our magnetic whiteboards, the adhesion of the printed magnet to the magnetic surface is strong. It is easy to peel the magnet off and reuse as required without loss of adhesion. Here’s a link to our video on Pinterest showing Ethan moving classes around on a Magnetic Blackboard Timetable.
Magnets are an add on cost with a minimum one (1) metre required per order. We offer small batch ordering for existing clients wanting to purchase additional magnets for new classes or to replace lost magnets, too.
