Exhibition Vinyl Cut Graphics Installation
Client: National Gallery of Victoria
Install Length: 6 Weeks
Key Elements: Wall Graphics, floor graphics, ceiling graphics, Vinyl cut lettering.
Overview; The Kusama exhibition at the NGV was one of the most technically demanding installs we’ve taken on — full room wraps across walls, floors and ceiling, all working to extend the world of her sculptures into the surrounding space. Every dot was colour matched precisely to the physical sculptures, requiring careful calibration across multiple surfaces and rooms. The ceiling was the most complex element; we mapped every light fitting, track and vent before production, turning the artwork into a jigsaw that could be brought in and placed to the millimetre. Six weeks of installation, working directly with the NGV team throughout.
Key Install Points
The idea with the Kusama install was to continue the theme of Kusama’s sculptures onto the walls floor and ceiling.
This required precision in both the colour and the alignment of each print.
The Ceiling was the most intricate, we mapped out the positions of all of the obstacles; the lights, the tracks, the vents. In an effort to make install as simple as possible.
From this map we created a sort of jigsaw puzzle with the artwork. and brought in drops that had very specific placement. Measuring this placement to the millimeter.
The colours were matched in the space to each colour in the sculpture, to be certain that the look would be extremely consistent across surfaces.
