Will Taylor Photography

Will is a Melbourne-based photographer and visual artist whose work is rooted in feeling – finding the quiet, charged details in nature that most people walk past, and turning them into something you can step inside. Influenced by cinematic music and a love of slow, intentional looking, his large-format prints are made to be experienced as much as seen. Each work is released as a limited edition, produced only a handful of times regardless of size.

“In the beginning my photography was always tethered to my travel, I never found myself taking photos while I was in Melbourne.

But when I did go on a trip, I would take a camera and always really enjoy snapping away and editing the shots. Slowly, over time, I explored more and more of the world, developing a familiarity with the camera as I went. As the familiarity deepened, it made room for creativity. In recent years I’d begun to see myself grow into a style, and only really recently am I seeing that style properly take a hold of my photography.

I’ve never had strong conviction with most creative outlets. I’ve always had average fashion sense, I don’t really know design. I wouldn’t know what was aesthetic in either medium. But music always seemed to land in a very specific place for me and it was one of the few where I would have confidence in what l loved. I would listen to movie scores and instrumentals. My taste was unfavoured by those within earshot, but that never shook how I felt about it.

I always found that listening to this type of music would take me to a very creative place. I would see the world a little differently, a little slower. Everything looks quite poetic when I’m transported there, everything seems very intentional. And so taking photos while under its influence always created quite an intense reaction within, something pulling in my chest. It feels incredibly strong. It’s the closest l’ve felt to any sense of a creative pulse. In my work I try to dive into that pulse. Focussing on the brief moments that charge this creative energy. Those little moments that we search for, that keep us coming back.

Each artwork that is for sale is a limited edition. Each artwork is available at any size, but falls into 3 price categories. There are only a limited number of times I will produce each print (usually 10), regardless of the size it is to be produced at.”
